Fusebox OÜ is implementing a product development project focused on expanding the functionality of the Fusebox platform with advanced balancing and solar asset management capabilities.
The objective of the project is to develop a cloud-based Balancing Responsible Party (BRP) platform and solar asset management functionality that help energy companies reduce imbalance costs, improve forecasting accuracy, and optimize the operation of renewable energy assets across European electricity markets.

Project objective
The project aims to conduct a pilot project using Fusebox’s smart system that integrates battery and local production systems into Tanzania’s telecom infrastructure. The expected result is the ability to assess the financial and usability impacts of reducing the proportion of fossil fuels on locally consumed electricity. This is directly aligned with global climate objectives, allowing for evaluation of the multi-faceted incentives (service reliability, increased working efficiency, potential cost savings) for achieving global climate goals (reduction of fossil fuels in consumed electricity). The pilot project will demonstrate the targeted use of already employed technologies in Europe (storage systems in the telecom network, and smart balancing via virtual power plant). The solution enables the integration of local energy production (solar power) with distributed energy systems, further promoting the use of renewables.
Outcome
The project’s immediate goal is to reduce CO2 emissions by 27 tons annually at the pilot site by replacing diesel generators and utilizing local solar energy panels. A secondary outcome of the project will be to test the solution in at least five user sites, with an overall reduction of up to 149 tons of emissions annually. The same solution can be replicated in other verticals in the country where it can help to reduce reliance on fossil fuel-driven electricity.
The project’s results will demonstrate the feasibility of deploying such solutions in the telecom network, with the potential for scaling to other sectors. Additionally, the solution will be presented to Tanzanian communication infrastructure authorities (TCRA) for future expansion of the concept.

Kenya project

Project objective
The project will demonstrate a European demand response solution for market participants in Kenya. As a result of this example, it will be possible to start developing the necessary legislation and IT infrastructure in the country to enable the commercialization of the project.
Fusebox joined Estonian state visit to Kenya 2021
Progress
Fusebox started a cooperation project with the Kenyan Ministry of Energy at the beginning of this year with the aim to introduce and demonstrate the potential of balancing demand response for local electricity system security.
As part of the project, at the beginning of September in 2021, Tarvo Õng and Erik Tamsalu from the Fusebox team participated in the State Visit to Kenya with Kersti Kaljulaid, the former president of Estonia.
The final visit to Kenya took place in December. The purpose of the visit was to connect Kenyan pilot users with the Fusebox virtual power plant. The focus was mainly on electrical and automation work to enable the customers involved in the project to participate in demand response.
